Wedding Cake Toppers - more than just the icing!

Resolved Question: what does my bf mean..i am confused?

Here is the short story on what is keeping me up: I had a chat with my bf(we have been dating for almost 4 years on and off) and I was watching Food Network’s Ace of Cakes(the TV show) and this gorgeous cake which they showed( a wedding cake).Most of my friends are married or engaged even though they have been together less than my bf and I but we also had some rough patches.Anyways I was telling my bf how wonderful the piping was done,how many tiers it had and how it sort of reminded me of the cake I would like at my wedding one day.I also told him that my sister agreed to help me plan my wedding when I get married even though it sounds stupid,I after helping so many friends pick flowers to colors have sort of decided on what would be the “perfect” or my “dream wedding” from colors,themes, number of people,etc. My bf was wondering why I had all the saying in everything which confused me because I asked him if he is going to propose and he said “Can’t we pretend we are married?It would be the same now?”He is going to Grad School(about to finish) and I am about to finish my Undergrad School then head off to Grad School too.His comment made no sense to me and left me puzzled as though I have no idea what he is trying to tell me.Finally he asked me what kind of wedding I would like and that I would have 10 minutes to tell him everything from location,attire,my dress,number of people,cake,color scheme,flowers, themes,etc.I did everything and more since I know what I want and he was overwhelmed as any guy would be with so much info in 10 minutes so he was wondering why I am so selfish.Okay he wants a wedding in which he wants the wedding cake to be made out of cupcakes by his mom or something like that which I said “No way” and something very laid back while I want 100-150 people tops since the menu and everything will cost a lot.So we decided to compromise in which I would pick one thing for the wedding and him another but it made me so mad because I told him that whoever pays for the wedding has control so unless he pays then he has 100% control.Look the weddings he has been to are not the kind where you dress in a nice suit or black slacks but rather the kind where you put on a polo and some slacks and call it an attire.He thinks that cupcakes as a cake would do justice especially his mom making the cupcakes which I find so cheap where as I want a custom made cake,a nice dinner where you sit down and are served by the waiter or waitresses dinner,dessert and wine.I am European and that is how I was brought up,his cousin went at my throat when I told him something along the lines of how I saw this wedding dress my friend showed me which was $1000 at which he thought that it was too much. We are not even engaged and the whole convo started from a TV show in which I saw a wedding cake.Also for my b-day in July I asked him to take me to see the ballet Swan Lake but he made a comment along the lines of how he cannot due to finances. I was struck by this because I know he works full time,he pays rent,he saves up money,I barely ask him for anything and this was my once a year wish.He said that he was saving for something but did not say for what.I talked it over with my guyfriend and he told me that maybe my bf wants to really surprise me big times but I asked him with what and he said maybe with something expensive.What do you think?
