Open Question: These cake a good idea or no?
Posted on Dec 20, 2009 under Wedding Cake Toppers Q&A |Im a baker/cake decorator and for christmas this year we are going to my husband aunts home. She asked me to bring a cake of course.
Im still a newly wed and want to impress them and do something special.
im makin a red velvet cake with white marshmallow fondant decorated with giant pearl non pareils, silver fondant ribbons and royal icing red poinsettias.
AND
im making dark chocolate orange flavored cupcakes with chocolate ganache (made from terrys chocolate oranges) and then an orange buttercream rose on top.
There will be 40 people.
Now to me this says CHRISTMAS. The red and whit cake is classic and terrys chocolate oranges are a favorite holiday treat for many.
BUT…. my husband thinks its all just ‘weird’. He says they wont ‘get it’. he said i should make a chocolate cake w vanilla icing and call it a day. maybe write merry christmas on it or something.
however, my hubby doesn’t even eat cake. he doesn’t like sweets, plus hes totally disconnected w his family.
it you were a normal person throwing a family dinner party would you think i went way over the top and dislike it? or would you appreciate/enjoy it?
ps. do you think red velvet or chocolate orange are too complicated flavors for kids?
